Description:
This hands-on lab course explores the advanced administrative aspects of an IBM WebSphere Portal V6.0 installation. Students learn about the basic architecture of a standalone WebSphere Portal server and how its components interact with WebSphere Application Server. Various high availability topologies are discussed, including server clustering, vertical and horizontal scaling, database split-configuration scenarios, and the implementation of multiple LDAP servers.
Students perform lab exercises using a managed Portal node in an environment that includes a deployment manager, portal nodes, DB2 database server, and an LDAP directory server. In this lab environment, students learn how to create a cluster, deploy portlet applications, use scripts to deploy new themes and skins, and move Portal configurations from staging to production servers. Students gain experience using many of administrative tools, including WebSphere and Portal Administrative Consoles, command line applications, and various scripting tools. Troubleshooting methodology and problem determination tools are discussed and explored within the lab exercises.
